Android version 5.0 or higher.
No other Device Owner is present on the device.
Storage must not be full.
The charging port must work (unless the idea is to install via QR code).
Secondary Users such as Guest Users, Multiple Users, or Dual Messenger will cause the installation to fail, as such, these need to be removed as well.
Secure Folder causes installation issues where the MB app can't be properly installed on the device, so it's necessary to uninstall it from Settings before installing the filter. Go to Secure Folder > Settings and press Uninstall.
Auto Blocker, This needs to be disabled to allow MB to be installed. Go to Settings > Scroll down and tap Security and Privacy > Select Auto Blocker > Toggle the switch to Off to disable it.
Note: There are branches of Xiaomi that also make phones that have similar instructions, like Poco and Redmi.
It is necessary to disable MIUI Optimization in Developer Options and enable Install via USB in the USB Debugging section (this usually requires creating a MI account).
In some cases, an option called Verify App Bytecode needs to be enabled before installation, which prompts the user to accept the installation of MB Smart.
Like with Xiaomi, Install via USB needs to be enabled in Developer Options
Some additional permissions might be required for background apps, so set MB Smart to have them allowed
On the Device:
Go to Settings > About phone > Software Information.
Scroll down to Build number and tap until you see a notification that developer options have been enabled.
Go back to the main settings menu where you should see a new option called Developer Options.
Go to Developer Options, scroll down to USB Debugging, and enable it.
Make sure the device is connected to the internet through mobile data or wifi
On the Windows Computer:
Download the latest MB_Installer.exe through TAG Hub.
Open the installer.
Connect the device via USB.
Accept the connection on the device.
Select Charging Only and USB debugging, without file transfer.
The installer should then go through several screens and then complete, showing a GREEN SCREEN.
For Android 14/15 you will need to follow the next steps:
Start the Installer (v5 or later): Proceed as usual until the device confirms it's running Android 14+
Disconnect the Device: Unplug it from the computer before restarting.
Restart (Do Not Turn Off): Reboot the device.
Unlock & Wait: Unlock after restart and wait 20 seconds—don’t interact with notifications.
Reconnect to Computer: Plug it back in and wait 20 seconds for recognition.
Complete Installation: Once detected, press Enter to finish.
⬆️ This should resolve the RED SCREEN errors during Android 14/15 installations.
On the Device:
The MB Smart app should have been installed and launched automatically, and the terms and conditions should have been accepted before proceeding.
Continue with Recover or Open account, and fill in the user's details, the office linkcode, and a pin for support requests.
Once the account is created, you will be asked to give permission to the MB Smart app.
Proceed to pay and configure the device on the portal
Note: This process only works on unprovisioned devices (check the Device Owner section for provisioning details). The device must be running Android 7.0+ and have a working camera.
Start with a new or factory-reset device.
Before setup, at the first screen after resetting (before tapping "Start"), tap the center of the screen three times.
This will open the camera and prompt you to scan a QR code.
Scan this QR code to proceed.
Android to Android:
Uninstall the filter from the old device (optional).
On the portal, turn off the filter from the Main tab.
Install the filter on the new device as usual. Continue until you see the GREEN SCREEN in the installer, then proceed with the device setup.
Recover the existing account:
Instead of creating a new account, select Recover.
Enter the RecoveryID exactly as shown, including the colon and email. The format should be: 12356:mail@example.com
⚠️ Be careful with spaces! Many mobile keyboards add spaces after punctuation, which may cause errors. Ensure there are no extra spaces.
Complete the setup:
Configure permissions as you would for a new installation.
The filter should now be installed and configured identically to the original device.
A new ID will be generated for the new device. If you need to manage the account on the portal, be sure to use the new ID.
Android to iOS / iOS to Android
The Filter itself cannot be transferred, but the payment can.
Uninstall the filter from the old device as usual.
Install on the new device as a completely new setup (not linked to the previous device).
Contact MB Support via #mbsmart Slack channel to transfer the payment. Include both Device IDs (old and new) in your request.
Android GO (versions 5.0 and above) is compatible.
Samsung S6, S7, and S8: These devices may experience a bug where a passcode is unintentionally set, with no known fix other than a factory reset. Installation on these devices is not recommended.
Certain Chinese brands may have accessibility issues. In such cases, it is recommended to avoid using Bypass (IAB Blocked) whenever possible.
Android 9: Chrome and Google apps may not be filtered. If this occurs, close the apps or, for Chrome only, add it to the whitelist. Upgrading to Android 10+ is the best solution.
Motorola devices: Some models may limit battery charging to 30%. The only known fix is to remove the Device Owner.
Oppo and Realme: Installation has not been successful on these brands. If you have successfully installed the filter, please provide details.
Unihertz Jelly 2: Results have been inconsistent.
Amazon Fire devices: Despite running Android, they are not compatible.
TAG Policy Notes

MP3 players: Not allowed under TAG policy.
Device Owner
The Device Owner is a special device administrator that, once activated, cannot be deactivated or uninstalled by the user.
Devices with a Device Owner can enforce all of Android’s management policies.
Provisioning restrictions: A device must not have any users or user data configured before being provisioned as a Device Owner.
Provisioning
A device is considered provisioned once a Device Owner, user, or device admin has been set up.
A device can be deprovisioned by removing all accounts in settings or performing a factory reset.
